October 2, 2025 - Members of Ohio’s immigrant communities organized a statewide rally this weekend in response to two controversial pieces of legislation that opponents say discriminate against foreign nationals and could drive economic harm across the state. House Bill 1 (HB 1) and Senate Bill 88 (SB 88) aim to restrict property ownership by non-U.S. citizens from countries designated as “adversarial” by the U.S. Secretary of State.
October 1, 2025 - Hundreds of Ohioans gathered at the Statehouse on Saturday, Sept. 27, to protest House Bill 1 (HB1) and Senate Bill 88 (SB88), a pair of bills that would restrict certain individuals and entities from acquiring property in the state. At the rally, speakers argued that the legislation would discriminate against immigrants and harm both civil rights and Ohio’s economy. The protest came just days before the legislature resumes its session today (Wednesday, Oct. 1).
October 1, 2025 - This past weekend more than a hundred Ohioans demonstrated outside the Statehouse against a pair of bills that could effectively outlaw some immigrants from owning land in the state. Ohio House Bill 1 and Ohio Senate Bill 88, prohibit citizens of countries designated “foreign adversaries” from owning land within 25 miles of “critical infrastructure.”
May 30, 2025 - State Reps. Juanita O. Brent (D-Cleveland), Anita Somani (D-Dublin) and Munira Abdullahi (D-Columbus) issued a statement following their press conference denouncing House Bill 1 and Senate Bill 88, which they say targets immigrant communities and violate federal housing protections.
May 29, 2025 - The Ohio Republican Party is trying to ram through a bill that would be the most restrictive in the country prohibiting undesirable types from owning property in the state.
Among those undesirable types: gangsters, criminals, people from China.
May 28, 2025 - An Ohio Senate committee heard from opponents Tuesday of a measure placing restrictions on foreign ownership of land. The sponsors argue keeping foreign governments — particularly China — at least 25 miles from military installations and critical infrastructure is a matter of national security.
