AWARE Ohio is proud to host our Asian American Youth Advisory Board program, a unique leadership and community-building opportunity for Asian American high school students in Northwest Ohio.
We embrace an inclusive definition of Asian American, welcoming youth of East, Southeast, and South Asian descent, as well as those who identify as multiracial, multiethnic, or adoptees.
As a board member, students participate in monthly meetings where they:
Connect with other Asian American peers from across Northwest Ohio
Learn and discuss about key issues facing Asian American communities (e.g., Asian American history, representation in media, identity, and racial discrimination)
Participate in small group discussions and provide their feedback on our programs, materials, outreach, and community impact

About the Youth Advisory Board Director
About the Youth Advisory Board Director
Cherice Chan serves as AWARE Ohio's Youth Program Director. Cherice grew up in Toledo, Ohio and graduated from Southview High School in 2019. She graduated with her B.A. in Psychology and minor in Anthropology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2022.
Outside of AWARE Ohio, Cherice works at the University of Michigan as the program coordinator for a research initiative dedicated to creating a more equitable digital future. She previously served as a project coordinator and youth advisory board director at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School. There, she worked on a research project about how Asian American teens learn and talk about race.
She is passionate about racial justice, ethnic studies education, and youth leadership development. In her free time, she enjoys visiting museums, going grocery shopping, and eating international cuisines.
